CASE STUDY

CLIENT : Deborah Krikun

PROJECT TITLE : Cubism

DURATION : September – December

TEAM : Samuel Adjei

DESCRIPTION : This project is about creating a cubist concept by using sneakers and a shoe. the shoe will be the focal point whiles the sneakers will be located around the shoe, after that draw some lines through the whole project in order to create the cubist piece i want. I got the inspiration from one of Roy Lichtenstein’s art called Cubist Still Life (1974). I also used some variety of colors including red, yellow, green, and blue.

RESEARCH : I started of this project by searching  for some cubist pictures and ideas using google. I looked through the images and found this one picture by Roy Lichtenstein which inspired me. I also used google as a medium to search for my color pallet. the only thing i did not search online is the shoe and the sneakers because they were my personal properties.

STRATEGY : I started my cubist by drawing a sketch of how i wanted it to look like after completion. so i uploaded all my pictures, color pallet and the sketch into Photoshop. i then aligned the footwear’s into the exact location on the sketch, after that i created a background and called up all the footwear’s  into it. then i started drawing line just like i see in the sketch and applied the colors to it. it wasn’t that hard to do because of the help of  professor Krikun. some tools used include ; Polygonal tool (L), Gradient tool (G), Select tool (Ctrl + T), Delete key (Ctrl + alt + Z), Save key (Ctrl + S),(Ctrl +alt + z), (Ctrl + D) to remove marching ends, selecting a new layer (Layer – New – Layer via copy (Ctrl +j) and the zoom in and zoom out keys (Ctrl + & Ctrl -).

CHALLENGES : This is my first time doing such thing so definitely one would expect some difficulties. Some of the challenges i faced in the making of this project was how to extract only the footwear’s from the whole picture. and also how to select an item, minimize or maximize the size of that item was a big challenge for me. But the annoying part of this project was drawing the lines to form cubes or triangular shapes and at the same time applying different colors to it.  But with the help of professor Krikun i was able to overcome all this challenges.

RESULTS : After weeks of work, I’ve finally completed the project. I was very exited and proud of myself too about how the project turned out neatly and nicely. i would also say a big thank you to professor Krikun for the support and help to see the completion of this project. Below is the final project.
